Job Description

Academic Service Librarian

(Post Ref: NU4318)

£27,026 - £29,515 per annum

Newman University is seeking to recruit a full-time Academic Service Librarian to work in our busy Library. This is a full time post for 37 hours per week, offered on a permanent basis.

Established in 1968, Newman is proud of its record for the quality and student satisfaction of its courses, and has an excellent graduate employment rate for an English university. Newman’s new Library opened in 2011, and in the 2018 National Student Survey we scored 89.71%, the highest score of any university library in Birmingham.

The successful applicant will join the Library’s Service Delivery team, to encourage the University’s students and staff to engage with and maximise their use of our space, stock, staff expertise and services. You will proactively work with subject teams to develop the resources and collections in your subject areas, prepare and deliver information skills sessions to students, handle enquiries, maintain subject web pages and promote physical and digital library resources. You will also act as Duty Manager of the Service Delivery team on a rota basis, ensuring the delivery of high quality services to students, staff and visitors.

It is essential that applicants possess a professional qualification in librarianship, information management or information science, and recent experience of working in libraries, preferably at a professional level.  The ability to relate to and inspire students together with excellent customer relation skills will enable you to thrive in our busy academic library.
