Role description

Post title: ARLG East Midlands Treasurer

Main role: The role holder will be responsible for all matters financial for the group, acting as first point of contact for all financial matters for the committee.  The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and implementation of the group's financial strategy.  The role holder will advise the Chair and committee members on all financial issues and will ensure group’s legal and financial obligations are met.  The role holder must be a member of the CILIP Academic Libraries and Research Group (ARLG) and work in the East Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

1.            Development and implementation of the Group’s financial plan

2.            Maintaining and updating the Group’s governance regulations

3.            Maintaining cash book

4.            VAT returns

5.            Preparing annual accounts for independent audit

6.            Payment of expenses

7.            Committee work

8.            Preparation and processing of invoices

9.            Answering claimers and trainees’ queries

10.         Relationship management - Bank & CILIP

11.         Maintaining paper and electronic records for the past several years

12.         Attend committee meetings

13.         Liaise with national ARLG Treasurer and national ARLG Group.

Knowledge and experience

The role holder will be a source of advice to the committee on financial matters.  They will keep up-to-date on professional governance issues and ensure that all CILIP and bank governance regulations are implemented by the group.  It is expected that they will have experience of budgeting and have an understanding of cash flow and financial modelling.

Time commitment

1. As a member of the committee the Treasurer will be expected to attend committee meetings. These take place 4 times per year and will likely take place online for the foreseeable future. The committee plans to return to at least one face to face meeting per year when social distancing is ended. Location of face to face meetings will rotate between member workplaces and agreed in advance.

2. Total time commitments approx. 25-35 days per year.
