Assistant Librarian - 0.5 WTE

Job Description

Part-time Assistant Librarian - 18:45 hours per week

Come and join a dynamic and developing library service at Barts Health NHS Trust.  We are always looking for new and innovative ways to enhance our services and support the 24,000 members of #TeamBarts across five sites!

We are seeking a professionally qualified, enthusiastic, librarian to work alongside our highly skilled team, in the delivery of an exceptional knowledge and library service.   This fantastic opportunity for newly qualified librarians, students in the process of achieving their qualification, or someone returning to the profession after a break.  It will allow you to develop your information skills and professional knowledge while also contributing to the work of the service and learning about working in the health sector.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Library Operations Manager and working closely with the Newham library team, you will support the day-to-day provision of services from the Newham University Hospital library and contribute to the delivery of outreach services across the Trust including literature searching, and information skills training.

Working for our organisation

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess excellent professional and interpersonal skills.  Ideally you would have some experience of e-resource management or cataloguing material, and feel confident presenting to small groups.  You will be analytical and flexible with the ability to prioritise a varied workload. Although an advantage, healthcare experience is not essential as training will be given if you are unfamiliar with the sector.
