Job Description

Candidate Support Officer

Volunteer role

The South East Regional Network is looking for a Candidate Support Officer (CSO) to hold professional registration events across the South East and to be the point of contact for registration queries and concerns.

If you are a chartered librarian who wants to help other professionals with their registration journey, becoming a CSO is a great opportunity to assist others while gaining new skills.

According to our most recent CSO:

“A major benefit of the role is the impact it has on your professional network – I have met and networked with a significant number of people, both through inclusion on the CILIP SE committee and through leading events that attract library professionals across a variety of sectors. Meeting people who work across a variety of sectors is also incredibly beneficial to your understanding of the wider library profession, and the role provides opportunities to get to know people in all sorts of roles and engage in some fascinating professional discussions.

When I began my role as CSO, I had limited experience in event planning, so the role has enabled me to gain useful experience in planning and coordinating events, and has improved my public speaking skills. It also helps you to keep up-to-date with latest CILIP developments – as a CILIP mentor, I found becoming a Candidate Support Officer complimented by mentoring role, as providing advice and presentations on Professional Registration keeps your knowledge current. Finally, the CSO role is incredibly rewarding in terms of assisting others with their own professional development.”
