Job Description

We are looking for two Cataloguers  (Technical Support Analyst) to join our global Books team! The main purpose of the Cataloguer is to prepare catalogue records and classify print books, e-books, and AV materials to support the company’s shelf ready services. 

You will also work as support to the Standing Orders team, ensuring up-to-date and accurate information is available for our customers. If this sounds like an opportunity you are interested in, then we would love to talk to you! 

About You – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments.

  •  Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 2 years of experience in cataloguing and classifying in an academic, special, public library or similar organization.

It would be great if you also had . . .

  • Postgraduate or graduate level qualification, preferably in Library and Information Science or its equivalent.
  • Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Proficient in creating MARC21 records and classifying in Dewey, LC and NLM.

What will you be doing in this role?

  • Create full or CIP level MARC21 catalogue records (or UKMARC where applicable) to AACR2 or RDA standard.
  • Source electronic records from internal and external databases, upgrading to full level if necessary
  • Create classification numbers for items using Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress or NLM Classification schemes.
  • Provide subject headings for items using Library of Congress subject headings or other schemes as appropriate
  • Customise Marc records, shelfmarks or classifications as required by the customer.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in cataloguing, classification and metadata.
  • Maintain statistics as required
  • Develop effective working relationships with other ProQuest teams.
  • Ensure that all relevant company and departmental Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

About the Team

This role will report into the Senior Cataloguing Coordinator (Senior Team Lead, Customer Care).

The Books Cataloguing team comprises of 6 people based in Ringwood, UK, part of the print book facility providing shelf-ready services to academic libraries across the UK and Ireland. The team is a key part of the wider Books team, working with development teams & other colleagues to deliver new features & functionality and updates across our platforms with the customer experience at the heart of our work. The wider team is comprised of colleagues across the US and the globe, all committed to helping users in education institutions and libraries around world achieve their goals.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time, permanent position based in UK. This role will require onsite working from our Ringwood office (5 days per week in office). This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours.
