LGBTQ+ Chair Role Description

Purpose of role: To act as one of the leading officers for the CILIP LGBTQ+ Network. Inform the decisions made to raise awareness and advise Library, Knowledge, and Information workers in the UK on LGBTQ+ subjects. This role is open to people who identify as LGBTQ+ or Queer. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the activities of the LGBTQ+ Network and ensure it meets its core offer and annual priorities as set out in the business plan. 
  2. Act as lead spokesperson for the LGBTQ+ Network and where appropriate, represent the LGBTQ+ Network at CILIP meetings and external events and where necessary, organise alternative representatives.
  3. To work with other officers and committee members to prepare the business plan and annual report.
  4. To liaise with the other co-chair & secretary regarding communication with committee members.
  5. To work with the chair and treasurer to maintain an effective overview of the financial position of the LGBTQ+ Network.
  6. To be the key link with CILIP to ensure professional issues relating to Network members, and collaborate with the other committee members on initiatives and responses to policy developments. 
  7. To promote the membership and benefits of the LGBTQ+ Network and CILIP as a wider organisation within the library and information profession.

The amount of time this role takes up will vary. An approximation is 1-2 hours per week.
