Job Description

CILIP Benevolent Fund – here to help in times of need

Fund Administrator: equivalent to 48 days per year.

Do you want to make a difference?

The CILIP Benevolent Fund is the welfare charity for the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP). Every year we make a real difference to current and former CILIP members who benefit from the support we can offer. We help people get through the toughest of times.

Do you want to play a part in what we do?

People are at the heart of what we do. We provide grants to help with the cost of living. But this is just one of the ways we help: for example, the Fund has built up contacts with a wide range of charities and other bodies, and has been able to supplement the help it gives members by additional support from these other bodies.

We are seeking a highly organised individual with a compassionate and flexible approach to support the Fund's Trustees. Working for the Trustees and reporting to the Trust’s Chair, you will provide support with administration, records management and dealing with enquiries.

The successful candidate will need to have high attention to detail and advanced IT skills. A clear communicator, they will be able to deal empathetically and confidentially with applicants and beneficiaries, and indeed be able to relate professionally to people at all levels, working as part of the Trustee team and demonstrating strong organisational and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in the third sector is not essential.

For an informal discussion about the role and to obtain a copy of the detailed job profile, please contact Gail Downe, who is the current Trust Administrator, initially via email: benevolentfund@cilip.org.uk

The role is home-based, while some of our older records are stored in central London. We pay the Administrator an honorarium of £1,500 per year, in three payments of £500.

As well as applicants who are currently looking for work, this role might suit someone who is working part-time or who has recently retired.

To apply, please send your CV together with a covering letter detailing why you believe you are suitable for this role and providing examples of how you meet the person specification to David Stewart, Deputy Chair via email: dcsl.km@gmail.com

The closing date for applications is Friday 7th June 2024. Interviews are likely to be held in late June or early July and will be online. Please note that due to the high number of applications expected, only candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified.

The CILIP Benevolent Fund is committed to the equal treatment of all current and prospective team members and does not condone discrimination on the basis of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, or marriage and civil partnership. We aspire to be a diverse and inclusive organisation and strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds to apply and join the Fund.

The CILIP Benevolent Fund is a Registered Charity (No.237352).
