Job Description

Digital Archive Assistant

ICAEW is seeking a highly motivated Digital Archive Assistant to join our team. The role will be critical in supporting the delivery of a comprehensive digital preservation programme. The programme aims to ensure the long-term survival and continued accessibility of ICAEW’s online content, digital publications, and printed material for ICAEW members and the wider accountancy profession.

Overall purpose

To provide support to ICAEW’s digital preservation programme and the Digital Archive Manager.

Main responsibilities

The role may suit someone entering the profession; an existing digital archiving professional; or someone coming from an information or archiving background looking to gain experience in this area.

The main tasks of the role will include:

  • Sorting, organising, and categorising digital records in variety of different media formats.
  • Applying Dublin Core metadata and descriptive information to digital records to make them easily searchable and retrievable.
  • Providing access to digital records to authorized users and responding to inquiries relating to the digital archive.
  • Staying up to date with advances in digital archiving and best practices.
  • Ensuring the authenticity, reliability, and security of digital records.
  • Scanning and digitising physical records into digital format.
  • Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders to meet their needs and requirements.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of digital preservation policies and procedures.
  • Use web archiving tools and software to capture, store, and preserve digital content over time.

The successful candidate will have an interest in digital preservation, knowledge of digital file formats and metadata standards, strong organizational skills, and excellent attention to detail - as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proficiency in using digital preservation/archiving tools and software is essential, but training will be given on the specific tools and software in current use – namely Preservica, Archive-It, and various open-source tools.

Occasional travel to our off-site archive in Milton Keynes may be required. All such travel expenses are reimbursed.
