Change your career, change lives
The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.
The Open University’s (OU) Library Service is innovative, customer-focussed, professional and creative. We connect the OU Community with world class information, technology and award-winning expertise to facilitate knowledge creation through learning, teaching, scholarship and research.
We are seeking a new colleague to join the Library’s Content Licensing and Intellectual Property (CLIP) team to provide professional advice, guidance and support on Library content and academic publishing to colleagues across the university.
You will also build relationships with suppliers and acquire Library content including databases, online journals, ebooks, image, sound, film and print. You will ensure that Library collections are organised and maintained to facilitate discovery and use by OU students and staff. You will be committed to developing your knowledge of academic publishing, seeking out developments in the information supply chain and have an understanding of changes in higher education and distance learning.
Skills and experience
Educated to degree level, or equivalent (or relevant work experience), you will be confident with data analysis and presentation. You will be a strong communicator and approachable manager experienced in planning, organisation and team working, and will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues within the Library and across the OU.
What you get in return
Benefits include a supportive and friendly working environment, 33 days holiday per annum pro rata plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure days and an attractive pension proposition.
On top of a competitive salary and pension scheme, we offer many staff benefits including generous leave allowance, flexible working, fee waiver for all OU courses and qualifications, childcare vouchers, cycle-to-work scheme and secure bike parking, free on-site car parking, on-site nurseries, and many different sports and leisure clubs offering discounts and other benefits.
Typically, the position is based at the OU’s Milton Keynes campus, in easy reach of Milton Keynes Central railway station (32 minutes from London Euston) and the M1 and A5. As a temporary measure, we are requiring people to work from home, until such times as government restrictions and advice change and allow them to work from the stated location of the role.
