Job Description


To plan, organise and oversee professional development and social events within the region. The types of events will include webinars, workshops, conferences, visits and social events. Professional development events are typically half day or one day events.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Researches potential themes for events and liaises with committee to agree annual themes.
  2. Agrees speakers with committee, invites speakers and supports speakers with their venue requirements
  3. Books venues and catering
  4. Produces promotional material to advertise events and liaises with key committee members to ensure materials are disseminated
  5. Produces the programme for events
  6. Organises and manages online bookings using the CILIP’s events system
  7. Works with the treasurer to organise delegate payment
  8. Facilitates post event evaluation

Time Commitment:

  1. It is anticipated you will attend three committee meetings per year in the North West. These meetings are currently taking place online.
  2. It is expected that you will attend the AGM and Members Day. The AGM and Members Day is held annually in various locations around the North West.
  3. As Events Organiser you will be expected to attend events where you have been involved in the organisation. Events will be held online or around the region.

Essential or Desirable


Member of CILIP*


Knowledge of library information profession

Evidence of recent work** in a library or related service area



Prior experience of planning and organising events



Evidence of good communication skills and attention to detail



Able to manage sequences of tasks, balance priorities and troubleshoot


Team working

Able to work within a team structure and share tasks



Evidence of excellent networking skills
