The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

This post is based in the award winning University Library in Ravelin Park. We are a busy, single-site, 24/7 service, holding the CSE accreditation. Our NSS satisfaction is consistently above the sector average and we achieve excellent staff survey results.

We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join our Academic Liaison team as Faculty Librarian supporting the Faculty of Science. This opportunity is a part-time 0.5FTE post working a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It sits alongside another 0.5FTE post that works Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Some flexibility exists around the specific hours worked on a Wednesday as we seek to give scope for a handover between the two post holders during this day.

The Faculty of Science has a longstanding and well-deserved reputation for excellence in both research and teaching across multiple subject areas.

Your role is pivotal to the student experience building on the links between the Library and the Faculty of Science including attendance at relevant committees, managing the Faculty library budget and the design and delivery of information and digital literacy programs at all levels. You will be managing and supervising a range of staff in the Library so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are key to the role.

You will co-ordinate the development of learning and teaching support across the Faculty Librarians including the sharing of best practice within the team and liaise with institutional partners around the Library contribution to digital literacy programmes for staff and students.

You will be a qualified librarian with specialist knowledge of one or more of the areas taught/researched within the Faculty of Science and knowledge of the current issues in higher education libraries.

For an informal conversation about the role please contact Ken Dick ken.dick@port.ac.uk 023 9284 3221. Shortlisted candidates will be given an opportunity to visit the Library and meet with staff in the team in advance of the online interview if they wish to do so.

The University of Portsmouth believes this role may be eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa. Please familiarise yourself with the requirements set out before applying for this role. If you are unable to meet the requirements for sponsorship you will need to confirm details of an alternative visa to work in the UK when applying for this role.

We kindly ask that candidates do not send CVs or cover letters as these will not be considered.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applicants from Black, Asian, or from other ethnic groups who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
