HLG Newsletter Assistant Editor
The Health Libraries Group (HLG) is currently looking for a Newsletter Assistant Editor. This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly committee and develop new skills. Purpose of role: to act as deputy to the HLG Newsletter Editor
Responsibilities:
To assist and support the Editor in the smooth operation of the quarterly electronic publication of the Newsletter via the HLG website.
To assist in proof-reading and editing copy for the Newsletter prior to publication.
To assist in responding to all enquiries relating to the Newsletter.
To provide opportunities for individuals to contribute to the research, evidence and knowledge of our health library and information profession.
To promote the membership and benefits of HLG and CILIP within the library and information profession.
Time commitment:
The amount of time this role takes up will vary – during pre-publication of each issue it may be 1-6 hours per week, but only perhaps an hour per week at other times.
As Newsletter Assistant Editor, you will be expected to, where possible, attend as Deputy:
- the quarterly committee meetings
- the HLG AGM
- the bi-annual HLG conference
The Newsletter Assistant Editor should serve a 3 year term to allow both consistency and fresh input over time.

* Recent means that a person has worked in a health and social care library or related service area within the last two years.
Accountability
The Newsletter Assistant Editor is responsible to the Newsletter Editor. Performance and ability to commit to the role will be discussed with the Newsletter Editor (and HLG Chair) as required. If these areas are not satisfactory then the Newsletter Editor can resign the post.
Support and training
Support is available from the current Newsletter Editor and the committee. This post is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in proof-reading and editing. Some knowledge of editing webpages using Wordpress or similar would be an advantage however training and support will be given to the successful candidate.
