Information Services Officer  – 3 month FTC -  likely to go permanent

Our client a respected law firm with global offices require an Information Services Officer to join them on a three month fixed term contract.

This will be based remotely due to Covid19 however office locations are:

Birmingham /Glasgow/ Leeds/ Edinburgh

In order to be suitable our client requires the following experiences.

  • Legal Research experience gained in a professional services or financial services / consulting / investment environment
  • Excellent knowledge of available research applications and their relevance to the operations of the firm
  • Experience of designing and delivering training on online information products and research services
  • Familiarity with standard analytical models, research techniques and report writing

Duties will include:


  • Deliver a high quality legal research, library enquiries, document supply and basic business research service to the business and to external clients as required



  • Assist in ordering books and other hard copy resources and in renewing online legal and business information resources, working with suppliers and reconciling monthly credit card spending
  • Monitor use of online resources to help inform renewals
  • Monitor publication of new building contracts, order and communicate to business



  • Day to day management and maintenance of library and hard copy collections including cataloguing, classifying, updating library management system, looseleaf filing, photocopying and shelving and general maintenance of local library and satellite libraries
  • Day to day management of online and hard copy subscriptions, working with subscription agent where applicable
  • Assist with book lending, book processing and circulating materials
  • Maintain resources pages on the intranet
  • Working with IT Service Desk and suppliers to resolve service interruption issues
  • Deal with incoming/outgoing mail, serials receipt and distribution
  • Assist in ensuring licensing terms, conditions and copyright are adhered to
  • Assist in managing and maintaining library and hard copy collections
  • Perform other tasks as needed by Information Services team



  • Use legal and business information resources to provide a current awareness service to the business
  • Contribute to horizon watching initiatives in the firm, identifying potential issues and liaising with internal clients to establish their impact, tracking progress of those developments and highlighting milestones as appropriate



  • Deliver induction training to new starts and trainees on legal and business information resources relevant to their practice area
  • Oversee password management for staff changes, new starts and leavers process
  • Deliver ongoing training on legal and business information resources to fee earners and staff as necessary
  • Deliver training in research techniques and sources to staff as required
