About the role
The Newnham College Librarian is responsible for one of the best-stocked college libraries in Cambridge, and for providing a high quality, welcoming and approachable library service for Fellows, postgraduate and undergraduate students, academic, administrative and support staff, and alumnae of the College. They are also a Head of Department, managing the Library budget and leading a staff team of two full-time Library staff, a full-time College Archivist and part-time Curator of Valuable Possessions.
Under the College Statutes, if the person appointed is female (including transwomen and assigned female at birth non-binary) they are eligible for election into a Fellowship in Category D, which brings with it membership of the Governing Body. If the appointed person is not female, they will enjoy the same benefits and have equal employment rights as a female, including attending and speaking at meetings of the Governing Body.
The annual salary for this post is £43,434 which is point 50 on the University’s single salary spine. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week, but it is expected that the post-holder will work the hours required for the successful running of the department. The College offers other benefits, including 33 days a year holiday, (inclusive of bank holidays), free lunches and parking (where available) when working, use of the College gym and the post is pensionable under the College’s attractive contributory pension scheme with a current employer contribution rate of 21.6%. This is a permanent post which will start at the beginning of December 2022.
The successful candidate will have significant relevant experience as a librarian, including in an academic environment, and will possess a professional postgraduate qualification or equivalent knowledge of library and information management.
You will have experience of working with modern printed books and special collections; you will be familiar with library management systems and budgeting, and you will be an inspiring, self-motivated professional, who is a good team leader with a vision for providing excellent library services for students and academics.
