Job Description

Leicestershire Libraries are at the heart of our communities, providing information and advice, activities to improve wellbeing and develop skills, supporting those seeking employment and sharing a love of reading with people of all ages.  

We are looking for an experienced, proactive, and committed part time Librarian, working 18.5 hrs per week, to help lead, shape, and give professional guidance on the development of libraries across the County.

 Working in a friendly and supportive team, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead on implementation of one of the Library Universal Offers
  • Develop new ways of delivering the service as we continue to emerge from the pandemic, providing a hybrid digital and physical offer for our customers
  • Provide professional support for council and community managed libraries within the network
  • Lead on an area of stock acquisition, ensuring high quality stock within an agreed budget
  • Manage project teams and resources to deliver the objectives of the service plan
  • Work with internal and external partners to ensure the service is relevant to the needs of our communities


Degree or equivalent in Library or Information Science

Experience of working in a library or information environment

Experience of stock selection and purchasing

Knowledge of the value of cultural services including libraries heritage and arts in the context of public service

Knowledge and understanding of IT and digital applications

Excellent communication skills with a variety of stakeholders

Ability to champion new ideas and initiatives to deliver agreed strategic outcomes and can act as an advocate for the library sector across a range of stakeholders
