Bromley House Library, an independent library established in 1816, is seeking a Librarian to assist the Library Director in the running of the library, with specific responsibility for our special collections and the conservation work of the library.
Salary: £22,898 pro rata
Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days), plus some overtime including regular Saturday shifts.
Key Responsibilities include -
- Collection development work, specifically in relation to our special collections e.g.; ensuring appropriate housing of stock, oversight of acquisitions and withdrawals (where appropriate), decisions relating to access and handling, retrospective cataloguing and management of donations in accordance with the library’s collection development policy.
- Administration of the book conservation programme, including setting conservation priorities, environmental management, the development of policies and guidelines, investigating digitisation, the management of the Adopt-a-Book programme, liaising with bookbinders and being the point of contact and training coordinator for conservation volunteers.
- Development of activities to increase awareness of our special collections, such as developing walkthroughs for users, talks, content for newsletters, social media and the website and ensuring that our stock is listed on co-operative catalogues e.g.; COPAC and ESTC.
- Oversight of the housing, recording and conservation of our own archives and increasing the awareness of what is contained within them.
The right candidate will have a relevant qualification or an equivalent standard of knowledge gained through experience, good communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities and a love for books.
