Post Type: Part Time (27.5 hours)

Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays and 2 Statutory days

The role

We are looking for a motivated library professional to lead the Parish Council’s two libraries- Old Town Library and Badbury Park Library.

The Libraries Manager will be an advocate for the library service within the South Swindon community and provide leadership so that the library’s vision and ambitions for customers are met. This a hybrid role that will include customer facing duties in the libraries as well as managerial responsibilities to ensure the safe and effective running of our libraries.

About

Since 2017 the Parish Council has managed Old Town Library in Swindon. Following a refurbishment of the children’s library area and an increase in the library’s opening hours it became the fastest growing community library in Swindon.

In 2023 the Parish Council’s library service opened a new library in Badbury Park- the first new community library in Swindon for more than 20 years. Both libraries have a motivated and experienced group of staff and volunteers who help deliver the library service and support the large number of events that take place in our libraries.

For more information about Old Town Library please visit: www.southswindon-pc.gov.uk/old-townlibrary.

For more information about Badbury Park Library please visit: www.southswindonpc.gov.uk/badbury-park-library

The Parish Council is looking for an experienced and motivated library professional to lead and manage our community libraries and build on their recent successes.

About You

You will be passionate about promoting literacy through creative ways to engage with people and make our libraries hubs of their communities. You will be an effective communicator and have experience of working in a libraries setting and leading a team of staff and volunteers.

The Libraries Manager role requires someone who is keen to take on new challenges and try innovative practices to engage people about literacy.

This a hybrid role and the postholder will need to have good customer service skills as well as comfortable working alone to make the libraries effective.

As this role requires the postholder to be working across two sites, we do require applicants to have a car and a clean driving licence.
