The vision of Swindon Library & Information Service is to expand the horizons of our community, transform lives and feed imaginations. To realise our vision we are seeking a Library Development & Innovation Manager.

You would report directly to the Head of Service and, together with your job share partner, you will jointly lead the development and provision of Literacy, Learning, Health and Cultural services throughout Swindon’s core libraries, and our programme of targeted outreach activities across all of the Borough’s communities.

You will be part of the Senior Management Team and will collaborate with our key stakeholders, ensuring the library service achieves collective objectives regarding both learning, literacy and reading outcomes, as well as wider health and wellbeing outcomes.

You will also work closely with the Swindon Stories Hub manager, seconded from the library service to work for the National Literacy Trust here in Swindon.

Experience at a service manager level (or higher) in frontline service delivery (public or private sector) is essential together, with demonstrable experience of leadership capabilities.

You will jointly manage, lead and develop our Outreach and Volunteer teams to effectively deliver their services, ensuring work is aligned to corporate priorities and informed by key national agendas and strategies. You will be required to help draft and implement library strategy and policy. We are looking for a dynamic and resilient individual with a good track record of delivering to deadlines and performance targets.
Do you have the skills we need to deliver our vision, and help us shape Swindon’s public library service for the 21st Century?

During Lockdown our provision of online services grew and delivering face-to-face activities and events will be not be possible in the short term. We will continue to deliver online activities, gradually introducing activities and events in Libraries and in the Community over the coming year. This role plays an important part in planning and delivering those activities and future service development.

We are flexible on days of the week worked for this post.

When applying please show how your past experience would be applied to this post.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act - for the effective performance of a customer- facing role).
