£45,629 - £48,682 per annum, pro rata

37 hours per week, Permanent

Team: Leisure Libraries and Countryside Services

Location: Based at Priory House, Shefford


The Library Service has a significant role in our communities and plays an important part in the lives of our residents. With 12 libraries, Arlesey Resource Centre, and Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre we have a strong physical presence across Central Bedfordshire.

Libraries are trusted community spaces, providing easy access to information and excellent signposting and referral services, giving support to local communities to help themselves and to become more engaged with services. 

The library service provides support for literacy, learning, personal development and cultural activities, with modern digital and online services, enabling residents of all ages to engage with technology.

We are focused on working with partners and other public services to deliver more from our buildings and explore opportunities for joined-up working, delivering value for money and ensuring the service is relevant and responsive to our customers.

As the Libraries Service Manager you will be an experienced manager of customer facing services, passionate about public service and care strongly about our communities. You will be an effective leader of the library service influencing and developing library service strategies and policy, undertaking business planning, staff and resource management to £3m per annum and will manage the shared service arrangements for the Library Hub and Virtual Library, and the Archives Service.

To achieve the qualification level allocated to the Family Profile, you must evidence a minimum of one from the range of qualifications or relevant experience options listed within this level;

Diploma of higher education (DipHE), foundation degree, higher national diploma (HND), level 5 award, level 5 essential skills, level 5 certificate, level 5 diploma, level 5 NVQ, ordinary degree, full professional qualification or equivalent knowledge.
