The CILIP Member Council
The Member Council is an expert panel of CILIP members who represent the breadth of CILIP membership. It is a delegated committee of the CILIP Board.
The Member Council ensures a diverse range of voices are heard and represents the voice of CILIP membership to CILIP.
The Cluster Representative
The Cluster Representative is at the heart of the Member Council. They attend quarterly meetings of the Member Council to act as a voice for CILIP members in their cluster, contribute their knowledge and perspective at meetings and liaise with their Cluster.
We are recruiting for a representative for the Diversity Networks Cluster. The cluster represents CILIP members whose professional interests are indicated by their membership of the following special interest groups:
- LGBTQ+ Network
- Disability Network
Duties as a Cluster Representative:
- Represent Your Cluster: Attend quarterly meetings and act as a voice for your clusters’ members within CILIP.
- Provide Expertise and Opinions: Contribute your knowledge and perspective to the Member Council.
- Support CILIP Members: Support and advocate for the needs and interests of CILIP members.
- Liaise with Member Networks: Keep your cluster informed about Member Council activities.
- Obtain Feedback: Gather and relay feedback from your cluster on specific issues discussed in or after the meetings.
Skills/Abilities
- Knowledge of the sector-Broad knowledge of your cluster and ability to communicate with cluster members.
- Excellent communication skills – Share feedback and represent members; contribute to group discussions during meetings; Active listening and engagement.
- Leadership and representation – Advocate on behalf of your cluster and act as their voice; Take initiative in raising issues and highlighting successes.
- Teamwork and collaboration – Work effectively with other Council members and cluster representatives; contribute to a collective decision-making process.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills – the needs, concerns and ideas of cluster members
Other requirements
- A CILIP individual member with current membership.
- A member of one or more of the CILIP Groups in the Diversity Networks Cluster.
Time commitment
- We hold four Member Council meetings every year. Meetings last two hours and are held online via Teams. We require Member Council Representatives to attend a minimum of three meetings per year and ideally all four.
- Time to liaise with your cluster – sharing information and collecting feedback for the next Member Council meeting.
- Occasionally, extra meetings may be needed. However, notice will be given if this situation arises.
- Term: Up to three years.
