Bringing library and information history news to our members
Newsletter Editor for CILIP’s Library and Information History Group
With our current editor having taken on a different committee role, we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person with an interest in library and information history to join us as the next editor for our newsletter. Published three times a year (online and once a year also posted to all current members), the newsletter aims to inform members and non-members of activities, events, conferences, news and research taking place within the field of library and information history.
The role involves soliciting feature articles, gathering information (with the help of other committee members), liaising with LIHG bursary winners about their reports, soliciting write-ups about group activities, editing the newsletter for publication, liaising with CILIP and their approved printing company to produce and distribute the paper issue to members, and agreeing a budget with the committee’s treasurer.
The Library and Information History Group members make up a diverse audience of academic and non-academic researchers, library and information professionals, and graduate students. All share an interest in the history of our profession. Most are based in Britain and are either group-only or CILIP members.
The editor is a full member of the Library and Information History Group committee. Please note that committee roles are voluntary, with reasonable travel expenses reimbursed to attend meetings. Our committee meets four times a year – twice online and twice in person. The newsletter editor reports on past and upcoming activities at each meeting. There may also be opportunities to get involved in selecting bursary winners or in helping to organise events and our annual conference.
Therefore, if you are looking for an exciting career development opportunity and a chance to network with other library and information professionals as well as with researchers from a diverse background, read on!
What are we looking for in the next editor?
The role would suit someone with an eye for news, excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience of using Microsoft or Open Source editing software, and some experience of working to deadlines. An interest in library and information history would be desirable. Previous editorial experience is not essential, but may be useful. We currently use SCRIBUS to design and publish the newsletter, but are open to using other programmes.
The deadline for this role is Friday 29 February 2020. To apply, please send a CV with a short statement covering why you would like to be considered to our Chair Dan Gooding at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more information about the role, please contact Danielle Westerhof at email@example.com.
