Job Description

Remuneration: £17,591 per annum based on a daily fee.

Commitment: The role requires a commitment of approximately one day a week for a term of four years, and can offer a flexible approach to duties, combining on-line and in-person attendance at meetings, events and other engagements.

The Welsh Government is seeking an exceptional individual to take on the role of President of the National Library of Wales from January 2022.

The ideal candidate will have extensive and well-proven leadership, ambassadorial and governance skills, combined with proven commercial acumen. They will act as a spokesperson and figurehead for the Library and be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to the objects of the Library and to its role in Wales and further afield.

Working with the Chief Executive and Librarian and his Executive Team, the Board of Trustees and the Welsh Government, the President will ensure an effective relationship between the Board and the executive, and between the organisation and its stakeholders. They will provide astute strategic leadership for the National Library, built on sensitive and collaborative working. The post holder will be required to lead the Board and the Library to fulfil its purpose taking account of the 2020 Tailored Review outcomes; leading as appropriate on organisational change; and working effectively within the cultural, political, social, and economic context in which the Library operates.

Candidates must also be able to provide evidence of a real interest in the Library’s activities, and an appreciation of its cultural importance.
