Volunteer role


The London Regional Network is looking for Professional Registration Support Officers (PRSO) to hold professional registration events for the London area and to be the point of contact for registration queries and concerns.

If you are a chartered librarian who wants to help other professionals with their registration journey, becoming a PRSO is a great opportunity to assist others while gaining new skills.

“A major benefit of the role is the impact it has on your professional network as you will meet and network with a wide variety of people via the committee and the events.

The role offers the chance to develop planning and presentation skills. As part of the PRSO Network, you will also be supported by experienced colleagues. It will  keep you up-to-date with latest CILIP developments.

Role profile:

Main Task

To support CILIP members who are undertaking Professional Registration.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To welcome new candidates in their region and maintain an appropriate channel of communication with them.
  2. To provide encouragement and support to candidates.
  3. To deliver online portfolio building sessions and provide support for other facilitators.
  4. To attend meetings of their Regional Member Network (RMN)
  5. To be part of the PRSO UK network

Time Commitment

  1. As a member of your CILIP Regional Member Network (RMN) you will be expected to attend at least one meeting per year and provide written reports on activity to the Chair. Travel expenses will be paid, but remote attendance is also possible.
  2. For portfolio building sessions you will be expected to deliver (or support) at least two virtual sessions per year depending on demand. Ad hoc support for candidates by email and telephone is difficult to quantify but usually does not exceed an hour per month.
  3. A PRSO will be appointed for two years with the opportunity to continue if they so wish.

Evidence of recent work* in a library or related service area

Evidence of excellent networking skills


* Recent means that a person has worked in a library or related service area within the last three years.
