Following the publication of a catalogue of Pembroke College’s medieval manuscript codices in 2022, we wish to appoint a manuscript cataloguer to complete work describing those fragments which could not be included in the published catalogue due to disruption caused by the pandemic. The fragment collection comprises several hundred fragments, the majority of which have been removed from historic bindings in the College’s collection of early printed books. They range in size from small joint-strengtheners to full leaves used as pastedowns and have all been conserved and repackaged.
It is intended that the records created in the course of this cataloguing project will become part of a planned online manuscript catalogue for Cambridge medieval manuscripts; to that end, all fragments will be catalogued in TEI format and in line with CUL’s standards. If time remains on the project after the fragments have all been described, it is anticipated that the post-holder will begin work converting records from the published catalogue into TEI records.
Pembroke College’s medieval manuscripts, including the entire fragment collection, are housed in Cambridge University Library. For that reason, the post-holder will be based in the Manuscripts Reading Room at the UL and their hours will have to take place within the opening hours of the Reading Room.
