Job Description

Research Librarian - London - Law

An international law firm that has offices in the UK, US, Asia and Europe has a new requirement for a Research Librarian to join their firm. This role is a new requirement within London and standalone position, but will form part of a much larger global knowledge management and research function. The position is one in which the successful candidate will be balancing a mix of business and legal research with broader library and information services tasks.

In this role the primary objectives and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • The provision of a legal and business enquiry service covering the UK and other jurisdictions
  • The provision of training on research resources
  • The management, selection and procurement of resources and vendor relationship management
  • Forging relationships within the firm and driving engagement with the Research function
  • The management of the hardcopy resources and physical library
  • Supporting on firm-wide KM initiatives and projects
  • Occasional support of other jurisdictions, including the US

To be a suitable candidate for this Research Librarian role, a strong mix of the following is required:

  • Previous experience in a similar research orientated information services role, ideally gained within a legal setting
  • Experience in the provision of both legal and business research utilising a variety of industry standard resources and databases
  • Some previous experience managing resources, procurement and some exposure to vendor management
  • An ability to work in a relatively autonomous capacity and to seek out opportunities to add value to the delivery of the research service
  • Highly refined relationship building, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A library or information qualification would be a distinct advantage, but is not a pre-requisite
