Job Description

The Hurlingham Academy is a mixed secondary academy based in Fulham, West London. It is located adjunct to South Park and within a stone’s throw of the River Thames. It is a small but growing academy that is improving year upon year under the new, young leadership team that was created in 2015.

You will work with a diverse community who have high expectations and aspirations for their children, who expect the best and who want to succeed. You will therefore have the characteristics that will drive this appetite for success within our students and you will lead by example.

The Academy has cultivated a friendly and welcoming environment for all of its staff, that is why we have one of the lowest absence rates in the whole of the group. The teachers feel empowered, the support staff feel recognised and we all want to be here! Here is the opportunity for you to join one of the ever increasing success stories of United Learning and to be part of the incredible journey that The Hurlingham Academy has set upon.

School Librarian

Location: Fulham, London

Salary: £27,460 pro rata of £31,170 FTE

Closing Date: 19th August 2022 (9am)

Interviews: Week commencing 29th August

The role

We are seeking to appoint an innovative School Librarian who will promote a learning ethos, encouraging students to use the Library for a variety of different types of study.

The Academy also works in a close partnership with our cluster school, Lambeth Academy, next to Clapham Common. This will provided shared expertise in common systems and learning programs rather than you having to 'start out on your own'

About You

You will need to have professional qualification or relevant experience in Library and Information Science.

The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team. You will need to be able to work under pressure, have excellent communications skills, and be computer literate.

You will have experience in promoting the development of reading and love of literature, and to manage, monitor and evaluate educational resources and their use, ensuring relevancy to the curriculum and school improvement plan within the allotted budget.

You will be enthusiastic about working within a school environment and supporting the needs of the Academy.

United Learning

The Hurlingham Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

We are working hard to become a more diverse organisation – which is key to our commitment to bringing out the best in everyone. We welcome applications from everyone committed to this ethos and would particularly welcome applications from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in the Group as a whole.  We always appoint on merit. We are open to discussing flexible working options.
