Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Assistant Librarian to join our Library Office at the House of Lords. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Librarian to help ensure the information we make available to Members of the House of Lords and other customers is relevant and easy to access.

You will also have a key role in creating records for an important collection which has not been easily findable before now, helping the Library significantly to retrieve that material.

This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 8 days per month spent working onsite at Parliament.

You’ll be accountable for/to:
- Helping to weed out books the Library no longer requires in agreed subject areas
-Identifying information resources (printed and online) for acquisition, renewal or cancellation in agreed subject areas
-Creating and managing metadata required to improve access to a collection of parliamentary documents not currently searchable
- As part of a Library team rota, providing a service at the Information Desk to Members, their staff and staff of the House (including evening duties if required, for which an allowance is payable):

What we’re looking for:
- A CILIP-accredited Library and Information Science degree or masters, or equivalent.
- Excellent attention to detail, with ability to work to a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience of Library Collection Management and familiarity with a range of library resources.
- Excellent oral and communication skills, with the ability to effectively work pressure within a busy team.

It would be even better if you had or if you’re willing to learn…
- Experience of Indexing or Cataloguing.
