Service Lead - Library Services & Adult Learning

Job Description

Swindon Borough Council (SBC) is looking to appoint a Service lead for Library Services and Adult Learning on a full time permanent basis.

Our Library, Information and Adult Learning Service aims to transform people’s lives through promoting literacy and a love of reading, helping people develop skills for jobs and independence, improving health and wellbeing and facilitating participation in cultural and literary activities.

As part of our priority to develop ‘Strength Based’ and ‘Place Based Working’, we have a clear vision of what we want the future to look like for our residents.  The success of our vision depends on working alongside residents with a strength based approach, enabling individuals to achieve their potential. 

This exciting new role will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of our Library and Information Service and Adult Learning, The role will play a key part in the culture change programme in the Council, with the delivery of modern, effective and efficient services delivered to residents using strength based and place based working principles, integrating our services and working with our stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes. The role will lead on the development of a new Library Services and Lifelong Learning Strategy.

We are looking for an experienced leader who has a track record of leading services and teams to achieve good outcomes for residents and leading teams through change. The post holder will have experience of developing innovative services, have excellent partnership skills and be able to demonstrate effective problem solving and decision making skills.  Experience of leading library services is essential and experience of working in leadership roles in education preferable.  You will be a resilient leader with the ability to work effectively across partnership, have strong relationship management skills, able to foster a culture of high support and high challenge with the ability to be creative in working with stakeholders to engage residents.
