Systems & Services Librarian

Up to £40K - depending on experience (Full time permanent position)


We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to have overall responsibility for cataloguing and for system administration of the library management system. You will also deliver legal research training, provide an enquiry service and maintain the Library’s Intranet and webpages and co-ordinate its social media output.

You must have previous experience as a law librarian, experience of cataloguing using AACR2 and MARC and experience of system administration using SirsiDynix or a comparable LMS.

Gray’s Inn is one of the four Inns of Court which have the exclusive right to call men and women to the Bar of England and Wales. The Inn provides continuing legal education post-qualification, the Library, the Chapel, dining, scholarships, advocacy training and other facilities for students and barristers.

Gray’s Inn Library

The Library houses over 75,000 books, journals and law reports, including rare books and manuscripts dating back to the 11th century.  It offers the full range of general English legal materials but also collects in over twenty specialist areas of law, including its flagship international law collection, maintained on behalf of all four Inns of Court. The Library also offers a range of online resources and a professional enquiry service for students and barristers. 

Duties include

•           Cataloguing and system administration using the SirsiDynix LMS, with overall responsibility for the cataloguing workflow

•           Legal research training and taking part in presentations, tours and inductions

•           Maintaining the Library’s Intranet and webpages and co-ordinating its social media output

•           Providing a professional research and enquiry service for barristers and students using hardcopy and online resources
