CILIP, the Library and Information Association, is seeking a treasurer for the Library and Information Research Group (LIRG).

Are you interested in developing your financial skills and supporting the library, information, and knowledge profession? The Library and Information Research Group, a CILIP Special Interest Group, is seeking a Treasurer to join the committee and help ensure the effective management of our finances.

Purpose of the role

To oversee and manage the financial affairs of the committee, ensuring transparency, accuracy and compliance with CILIP’s financial policies.

What you’ll do

As Treasurer, you will:

• Maintain accurate financial records and manage payments for activities, events and sponsorships
• Prepare and present financial updates to the committee
• Deliver an annual financial report at the AGM and complete required reporting templates
• Liaise with CILIP’s Finance Team and relevant banking/investment partners (e.g. Unity Trust Bank)
• Support budgeting and financial planning for activities and events
• Advise the Chair and committee on financial implications of decisions
• Ensure compliance with CILIP’s Treasurer Guidelines and Expenses Policy
• Attend committee meetings and contribute to wider discussions and decisions

Who we’re looking for

You don’t need prior treasurer experience. We welcome volunteers at all career stages who are:

• Organised and detail focused
• Comfortable handling financial information
• Collaborative and reliable
• Interested in developing financial and governance skills

Eligibility:

• You must be a current CILIP member.
• You should have recent experience working in a library, information service or related sector.

Time commitment

Around one hour a month is required for treasurer activities, with additional time at key reporting periods or around events. In addition, there are approx. eight committee meetings per year each lasting one hour, and you might typically spend around three hours a month on other committee work.

• Direct support from the Committee, Chair and CILIP Finance
• Shared responsibility if working as a co treasurer
• Access to resources, templates and guidance
• Peer support (e.g. treasurer WhatsApp/online forums)
• A dedicated CILIP email address and Office 365 account for collaboration and document management
• Reimbursement of reasonable expenses such as travel for in-person events and a 10% discount on your CILIP membership.
