Website Editor: Role Description and Requirements

Main Task

To maintain the SIG’s website and work with the Social Media Editor to maintain the SIG’s other online presences.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Produce new content and write it in an interesting, appealing, and suitable manner appropriate for the Web.
  2. Ensure the content of the SIG’s website is accurate and up-to-date.
  3. Liaise with committee members regarding the development of web content.
  4. Work with the Social Media Editor to manage and contribute to the SIG’s Twitter account, blog, and monthly email bulletin.
  5. Manage the committee members’ Jiscmail distribution lists.
  6. Participate in committee email discussions between committee meetings.
  7. Attend applicable training through CILIP HQ.

Time Commitment

  1. Attend four committee meetings per year, currently being held on Zoom, but may return to in-person meetings (travel expenses are paid) in the future.
  2. Attend the AGM as well as the SIG’s events and conferences whenever possible.
  3. For the role of Website Editor allow for approximately 1-2 hours per week.
  4. The Website Editor will normally be appointed for one year with the possibility of continuing.

Essential or Desirable


Member of CILIP


Professional registration

Chartered or Fellowship


Knowledge of library information profession

Evidence of current or recent work in a library or related service area


Knowledge of or interest in metadata/cataloguing

Evidence of job roles or interest in this area of the profession


ICT skills

Evidence of excellent ICT skills



Evidence of website editing, including a basic understanding of HTML and website construction using content management systems



Knowledge of web accessibility and usability issues


Attention to detail

A good eye for detail, with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills


Communication and interpersonal skills

Evidence of good communication and interpersonal skills


Confident working independently and under deadlines

Evidence of independent working under deadlines
