The Cataloguing & Indexing Group (CIG) promotes best practice, actively contributes to the development of metadata standards and formats, and provides opportunities for learning and professional development. The committee are pleased to offer CIG members the opportunity to apply for the voluntary post of Website Editor.

JOB DESCRIPTION - Website Editor


The CIG Website Editor’s main task is to create and maintain our content on the CILIP website liaising with CILIP and CIG committee as appropriate. The role requires a combination of writing skills and technical knowledge. In particular although the following are not essential in practice they are certainly desirable: familiarity with content management systems (CMS), a working knowledge of web design, desktop publishing and photo editing.


Take the lead in recommending well-structured and user-appropriate design, functionality and content for the site.

Create a content schedule.

Ensure content adheres to CILIP’s house style, covers all necessary areas of interest, is accurate and up to date.

Write and edit copy and upload content.

Source and edit images.

Liaise with relevant committee members to coordinate the timely publication of content, especially for the sections of the journal, committee documents and events.

Take the lead in liaising with CILIP on matters relating to the website, including discussions on proposed developments and the reporting of technical problems.

Collect and monitor usage statistics.

Report back to the Committee on a quarterly basis.

Follow CILIP’s guidelines on content creation and site management.

Assist with training other committee members as required.

Allow for a 6 month handover period.
